Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has released a highly controversial video, sparking global outrage. The video shows him demanding the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners who are seen lying face-down with their hands bound.
The disturbing video, which the hardline minister posted himself on his social media account, has quickly gone viral. It shows numerous Palestinian prisoners lying on the floor with their hands tied behind their backs.
Standing over them, Ben-Gvir makes an inflammatory demand for their execution. “These people came to kill our children and women,” he said in his signature hateful tone. “Now look at their condition. Only one thing remains, and that is an immediate death penalty for these people.”
Ben-Gvir, known for his provocative statements, also threatened to withdraw support from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government if his proposed death penalty bill is not advanced in parliament.
He proudly described his crackdown on prison conditions as a personal success, boasting, “I am proud of the revolution in the prisons. They are no longer recreation camps but places of fear. The smiles have been erased from the prisoners’ faces.”
Separately, Israel’s Justice Minister Yariv Levin is reportedly working on legislation to establish special courts. These courts would try Gazan fighters involved in the October 7 attacks, with the authority to impose the death penalty on those found guilty.
