In Gaza City, an Israeli tank shell hit a civilian vehicle, killing 11 members of the Abu Shaban family. The victims included seven children and three women. The attack took place on Friday evening in the Zeitoun neighborhood and is being described as the deadliest violation of the eight-day ceasefire.
Details of the Attack
According to media reports, members of the Abu Shaban family were on their way to inspect their damaged home when Israeli forces opened fire on their vehicle. Mahmoud Basal, the spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense, said the family could have been warned or stopped in another way, but Israel continues to shed innocent blood and commit crimes against civilians.
Hamas Condemns the Attack
The Hamas movement condemned the attack, calling it a massacre. The group said the family was targeted without any reason and urged U.S. President Donald Trump and other mediating countries to pressure Israel to respect the ceasefire agreement.
Situation in Gaza Remains Dangerous
According to Al Jazeera, many residents in Gaza are unaware of Israeli troop movements because of poor internet and communication services, putting ordinary citizens at risk.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that yellow markings would be used to show areas where Israeli forces have withdrawn. However, reports indicate that the Israeli army still controls nearly 53 percent of the Gaza Strip.
Ceasefire and Ongoing Violence
Although the exchange of prisoners continues under the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces have killed at least 28 Palestinians so far. Israel has also restricted the delivery of food and medical supplies to the area. Last week, five Palestinians were killed in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood during Israeli gunfire.
Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
According to the United Nations, aid convoys are struggling to reach famine-affected areas. Nearly half of Gaza’s population receives less than six liters of drinking water per day, far below emergency standards.
The World Food Programme (WFP) reported that since the ceasefire began, an average of 560 tons of food enters Gaza daily, which is not enough to meet the needs of the hungry and displaced population.
Hamas on Ceasefire Commitments
Hamas stated that it remains committed to the ceasefire terms and has already handed over the bodies of ten Israeli prisoners. However, the group said more bodies are yet to be recovered because heavy machinery is required for the search, and Israel has not allowed such equipment to enter Gaza.
