The conflict between Israel and Hamas has escalated dramatically following a day of intense fighting. According to the Independent, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned of further escalation after what he described as the largest day of attacks since the conflict began in October 2023.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Netanyahu declared, “What happened today is not the end of the story.” He detailed how Hezbollah attempted an attack on Israel with rockets early in the morning, prompting a powerful preemptive strike by the Israeli military. Netanyahu claimed that the military destroyed thousands of short-range rockets and intercepted unmanned aerial vehicles targeting a strategic location in central Israel.
The Israeli military reported on August 25 that it conducted strikes involving around 100 jets against targets in Lebanon, describing the action as self-defense. Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, retaliated by launching hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel, labeling the attacks as the “first phase” of their response to the recent assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr.
