Islamic countries, including Pakistan, have jointly issued a statement condemning Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state. The statement, issued by the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), deems Israel’s move a blatant violation of international law and a serious threat to peace in Africa’s Horn and the Red Sea.
The statement emphasizes that any attempt to undermine the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia is unacceptable. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced earlier today that Israel has officially recognized Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.
The joint statement warns that recognizing territorial partitions amounts to a dangerous precedent for world peace, violating the UN Charter and international norms. It also asserts that Israel’s decision on Somaliland is a reflection of its expansionist ambitions, rejecting any possible link to the forced displacement of Palestinians.
The OIC statement, signed by Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and Sudan, is supported by Turkey, Yemen, Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, and Maldives. The statement comes as the UAE’s President has released an official video of his visit to Pakistan.
