The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled a formal hearing for a controversial petition seeking the closure of the official X (formerly Twitter) account belonging to the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). According to the cause list issued by the registrar’s office, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir will preside over the hearing on November 4th.
In response to the petition, the court has issued notices to the incarcerated PTI founder, demanding an official reply. Furthermore, the IHC has also summoned responses from the National Cyber Crime Agency, the relevant jail superintendent, and other parties involved in the case.
The petition was filed by a citizen named Ghulam Murtaza through his legal counsel, Barrister Zafar Ullah. The petitioner alleges that “illegal and malicious tweets” are being posted from the account despite the PTI founder being in prison. The plea urges the court to order the removal of these “alleged seditious posts,” stop their further dissemination, and block the account.
