The President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has stated that the government’s decision to take action against non-filers is a correct one.
In his statement regarding the government’s move to impose restrictions on non-filers and initiate a crackdown, Atif Ikram Sheikh emphasized the importance of increasing the number of taxpayers to expand the tax net. He mentioned that action against individuals not paying taxes on taxable income should have been taken earlier. There should also be accountability for taxpayers involved in tax evasion, as well as facilitators among FBR officials.
Atif Ikram Sheikh further stated that to improve Pakistan’s economy, tax collection must be enhanced. Instead of increasing tax rates on existing taxpayers, measures should be taken to alleviate the tax burden on those who already comply with tax regulations.
