Iran has issued a stark warning, stating it will target regional military bases belonging to any country that attempts to support Israel amidst the ongoing escalation. This was conveyed by a senior Iranian official to a US broadcaster on Saturday.
According to a report by CNN, the unnamed Iranian official asserted that Tehran “reserves the right – under international law – to respond decisively to this regime,” referring to Israel. He further elaborated that “any country that attempts to defend the regime against Iran’s operations will, in turn, see its regional bases and positions become new targets.”
These remarks follow Iran’s retaliatory actions in response to Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian residential, military, and nuclear sites. Tehran claims these attacks resulted in the deaths of senior Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists.
The official indicated that Iran’s response would intensify in the coming days, noting that the country views Israel’s actions as “aggression” and a violation of international norms. “Iran will escalate its retaliatory strikes against the Zionist regime,” the official stated.
In a statement released on Friday night, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed it had launched a barrage of ballistic missiles towards Israel under ‘Operation True Promise III’. The missile assault was reportedly executed “in compliance with the directive of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Armed Forces,” and described as a response to the will of the Iranian people.
The IRGC claimed that hundreds of missiles successfully breached Israel’s advanced, multi-layered air defense systems and struck designated targets. The full scale and precision of the attack have not been independently verified, but it represents one of the most significant direct confrontations between Iran and Israel in recent memory.
The situation remains highly volatile, with increasing fears of broader regional involvement. Tehran’s latest warning has raised concerns among Gulf capitals and Western allies who have military assets stationed across the Middle East.
