Amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held a telephonic conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday, urging both sides to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.
According to Iranian state media, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on the deteriorating regional security situation in light of the recent developments between Pakistan and India. Araqchi stressed the importance of de-escalation, underscoring Tehran’s commitment to regional stability.
The Iranian foreign minister had earlier visited New Delhi, where he held meetings with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
During these meetings, Araqchi reportedly conveyed Iran’s hope that dialogue would prevail and tensions between the two South Asian neighbors would subside.
In a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on X (formerly Twitter), it was stated that Araqchi “highlighted the necessity of reducing tensions and promoting diplomacy in the current sensitive circumstances.”
The Pakistani Foreign Office also confirmed the call, noting that Ishaq Dar apprised his Iranian counterpart of Pakistan’s stance on the regional developments.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s desire to avoid conflict and maintain peace in the region, saying that Islamabad had no intention of escalating the situation.
