Iran’s Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib announced on Sunday that a collection of sensitive Israeli documents obtained by Tehran is set to be unveiled soon. Speaking on state TV, Khatib described these documents as a “treasure trove” that will enhance Iran’s offensive capabilities.
Iranian state media had reported on Saturday that Iranian intelligence agencies had acquired a substantial cache of sensitive Israeli documents. Khatib elaborated that these documents pertained to Israel’s nuclear facilities, its diplomatic relations with the United States, Europe, and other nations, and its defensive capabilities.
There was no immediate official response from Israel regarding this claim.
It remains unclear whether this information breach is connected to a reported hacking of an Israeli nuclear research center last year, which Tehran is only now disclosing amidst heightened tensions surrounding its nuclear program.
“The transfer of this treasure trove was time-consuming and required security measures. Naturally, the transfer methods will remain confidential, but the documents should be unveiled soon,” Khatib stated, adding that in terms of volume, “talking of thousands of documents would be an understatement.”
In 2018, then-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israeli agents had seized a vast “archive” of Iranian documents, which he asserted demonstrated that Tehran had undertaken more extensive nuclear work than previously known.
President Donald Trump had previously threatened military action against Iran if Tehran failed to reach an agreement with Washington regarding its nuclear program. However, reports in April indicated that Trump had blocked a planned Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear sites, preferring to pursue a negotiated settlement with Tehran.
On Wednesday, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared that abandoning uranium enrichment was “100%” against Iran’s interests. This statement rejected a key US demand in ongoing discussions aimed at resolving the decades-long dispute over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Western powers maintain that Iran is enriching uranium to a high degree of fissile purity, close to the level required for atomic bomb fuel. Iran has consistently denied any pursuit of nuclear weapons.
