UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK:
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, delivered a firm statement at a critical UN Security Council session, declaring unequivocally that Iran will not succumb to external pressure regarding its nuclear activities and intends to continue its program. This assertion comes amid heightened global scrutiny and increasing pressure from Western powers concerning Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
According to foreign media, Iravani stressed the necessity for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to maintain its professional integrity by operating with impartiality, basing its work on facts, and resisting pressure. He highlighted that the agency’s credibility is paramount to its global role.
Iravani reminded the international community of Iran’s right under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to access peaceful nuclear technology for its development and energy needs. He insisted that “our right to nuclear energy cannot be ignored under any pretext.”
The Iranian envoy also criticized what he termed a double standard, noting that some governments are cooperating with a regime (Israel) that has not signed the NPT and possesses undeclared nuclear weapons. He clarified that the objective of nuclear safeguards should be to facilitate, not impede, legitimate nuclear activities. Concurrently, he urged Israel to cease its continuous aggression against Syria.
