KARACHI, PAKISTAN—The Sindh Police have formally requested Interpol and British law enforcement agencies to share the detailed log of a tracking device fitted in a high-end vehicle that was reported stolen from the United Kingdom and recently located in Karachi.
The black Range Rover Sport was stolen on November 11, 2022, from Harrogate, UK. Earlier this year, in February, its embedded tracker system provided a location ping that placed the luxury SUV on Korangi Road in Karachi.
Subsequently, Interpol issued a letter alerting Pakistani authorities, including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Islamabad, the Karachi Police, and the Anti-Vehicles Lifting Cell (AVLC), about the presence of the stolen vehicle.
Speaking to Dawn on Friday, Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon confirmed the official request: “We have sent an email to the UK police and asked them to send us a detailed log of the tracker fitted in the vehicle.” The IGP added that the police are also seeking the source of the vehicle’s active location from the tracker, as the last known position was recorded in Karachi on February 11, 2025.
The Pattern of Cross-Border Auto Theft
According to Interpol’s communique, the UK police requested cooperation from Pakistani authorities to trace and locate the high-value vehicle. The last recorded active location before the signal was lost was in Leeds, UK.
This incident marks a continuation of a disconcerting trend involving the trafficking of luxury vehicles. In 2022, another high-end vehicle, a Bentley Mulsanne, stolen from the UK, was successfully recovered from Karachi. That recovery was made possible after a British intelligence agency tracked the exact location of the car and notified their Pakistani counterparts, highlighting the necessity of international cooperation in combating such organized crime networks.
