ISLAMABAD—Internal divisions within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have surfaced as members of the party’s Parliamentary Party have publicly challenged the official statements issued after their recent meetings. The conflict raises serious questions about the coherence of the party’s narrative and the authority of its central leadership.
Sources indicate that numerous parliamentary members have complained in internal groups, alleging that key discussion points were omitted from the official press releases, while non-discussed items were included. Members expressed frustration, stating that “one thing is discussed in the Parliamentary Party, but something entirely different is conveyed outside,” pointing to a breakdown in transparency and communication.
The dispute particularly involves the sensitive topic of negotiations and participation in government-proposed committees. PTI leader Atif Khan explicitly denied any knowledge of an offer by Rana Sanaullah or any other Federal Minister to form a committee. He stressed that no decision was made during the parliamentary session regarding joining any committee, including one concerning facilities at Adiala Jail.
Dr. Amjad Khan echoed this sentiment, confirming that the parliamentary party did not decide to join any Federal Minister’s committee, and asserted that it is currently impractical for PTI to sit with the government under prevailing circumstances. He was quick to clarify, however, that the party has never refused dialogue in principle. Sahibzada Sibghatullah also corroborated the claim, stating that there was absolutely no discussion about a minister’s committee in the parliamentary session. This internal strife highlights a visible lack of consensus among PTI leaders on strategic matters moving forward.
