Possibility of Collaboration in Afghanistan
India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced on Wednesday that it is considering participating in development projects in Afghanistan, despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Support for Afghan Healthcare and Refugee Rehabilitation
According to the ministry, India will provide additional assistance to Afghanistan’s healthcare sector and support refugee rehabilitation upon the Afghan government’s request. To date, India has supplied Afghanistan with wheat, medicines, COVID vaccines, and winter clothing.
Non-recognition of the Taliban Government
India does not recognize the Taliban government, which took power in Afghanistan in 2021. Following the Taliban’s rise, India closed its embassy in Kabul, and Afghanistan’s embassy in New Delhi ceased operations in November 2023, as Afghan diplomats appointed during the previous regime failed to secure visa extensions from India.
