In a recent address to a gathering in Solapur, Maharashtra, Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), stated that he dreams of the day when a girl in a hijab will become the Prime Minister of India. Asaduddin Owaisi emphasized that, according to Article 370 in the Indian Constitution, which was introduced by the country’s first Law Minister, Babasaheb Ambedkar, every Indian citizen has the right to become the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or Mayor. This statement has sparked widespread reaction in India, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticizing Owaisi for his remark.
The BJP responded by saying that Owaisi should first nominate a Muslim woman in a hijab as the head of his party. Asaduddin Owaisi countered this by saying that if a person who kicked the Chief Justice of India for wearing shoes had been named Rakesh Kishore instead of Asad, the police would have done nothing. The BJP argued that while the Indian Constitution does not prohibit anyone from becoming the Prime Minister, Owaisi should provide a practical example.
On the other hand, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that although the Constitution does not impose any restrictions, India is a Hindu civilization, and the Prime Minister will always be a Hindu. Shinu Choudhary, the leader of the Shiv Sena, also stated that there is no vacancy for the position of Prime Minister, and the standard of leadership is not based on religion but on performance.
Asaduddin Owaisi also criticized those who spread hatred against Muslims, saying that hatred will not last long, and love will ultimately prevail.
