In a shocking case of marital violence, a 22-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, India, has been arrested after confessing to murdering his wife. According to reports, Sachin, a resident of Kanpur’s Maharajpur police station, arrived at the police station on Saturday morning, crying and admitting to having strangled his wife, Shweta. The victim’s body was found wrapped in a blanket inside their rented room.
Police officials stated that Sachin had spent almost four hours wandering around the city after the murder, contemplating fleeing, but eventually decided to surrender to the authorities. The police promptly arrested Sachin and took him to the scene of the crime, where the body of his wife was discovered. An autopsy has since been conducted on the body.
Investigations revealed that Sachin and Shweta were from Mohanpur village in Fatehpur district and had eloped against their families’ wishes. The couple had first gone to Surat, where Sachin worked at a factory, and later moved to Kanpur, where they rented a room. Sachin worked as an auto-rickshaw driver to make ends meet.
In his confession, Sachin alleged that he had been suspicious of his wife’s character for some time. He claimed that Shweta had been receiving money from her grandmother’s account, which she had been denying. Sachin also suspected that his wife was involved with other men in the neighborhood.
On the eve of the murder, Sachin had planned to confront his wife about his suspicions. He told his wife that he was leaving for a party with friends and would not return that night, but he returned to their room a few hours later. Sachin claimed that he found Shweta with two local men in their room, which led to a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Sachin strangled his wife.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, and the police are continuing to investigate the matter. The body of the victim has been sent for autopsy, and further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report.
