Indian lawyers are expressing serious concerns about the country’s arms exports to Israel, suggesting potential violations of international law and the Indian Constitution.
Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan has accused Israel of committing genocide in Palestine and alleged that India’s arms exports are facilitating this violence. He stressed that India is complicit in these actions.
Advocate Chander Uday Singh has called for an immediate halt to arms exports to Israel, arguing that such exports contravene Indian domestic laws. Singh pointed to Article 51C of the Indian Constitution, which mandates the state to promote respect for international law and treaty obligations, including the Genocide Convention ratified by India in 1959.
In June, fragments of missiles labeled “Made in India” were reportedly discovered following an Israeli bombing of a school in Gaza.
Legal experts suggest that India could be held accountable for its role in facilitating what they describe as genocidal actions, both in Kashmir and Gaza. They argue that India has no justification for exporting weapons of war and cannot escape responsibility for the resulting destruction.
