NAGPUR, India—The city of Nagpur in the Indian state of Maharashtra has been rocked by the tragic death of 29-year-old Kabaddi player Kiran Siraj Dadhe, who allegedly died by suicide. Preliminary investigations suggest the promising athlete was driven to this extreme step by a convergence of severe financial woes, broken promises of employment, and escalating marital disputes with her husband.
According to reports in the Indian media, Kiran Siraj married Swapnil Jaidhoo in 2020. Before the marriage, Swapnil had reportedly promised Kiran and her brother assistance in securing jobs and resolving their financial difficulties. However, after the marriage, Kiran discovered these promises were fraudulent and were continuously being evaded.
The situation deteriorated rapidly, forcing Kiran Siraj to leave her husband’s home and return to her parents’ residence a few months ago. In her lifetime, Kiran had accused her husband of both mentally harassing her and making inappropriate demands.
On December 4, the young woman attempted to end her life by consuming poison. She was rushed to the hospital where she fought for life for three days before tragically succumbing to the effects of the poison. The police have registered a case against the husband, identified as Swapnil Lambghade, and have initiated a search operation to apprehend the accused and bring justice to the victim’s family.
