On Tuesday, September 3, India deployed four ships and two aircraft to search for three Coast Guard members missing after their helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea. The incident occurred late Monday, about 45 kilometers off the coast of Gujarat, during a rescue operation.
The helicopter was engaged in rescuing an injured crew member from an Indian-flagged tanker when it made an emergency hard landing and ditched into the sea, according to the Indian Coast Guard.
One crew member has been recovered, and the search for the remaining three continues. The wreckage of the helicopter has been located.
The crew had recently been involved in rescue efforts during flash floods in Gujarat in late August, which resulted in at least 28 fatalities.
