During a dispute at the fast food restaurant in Nnkuli, Honolulu, Hawaii, the United States, a customer named Reynaldo Cheney, 60, fatally stabbed an employee named Kashka Otto, 22, who was working there.
According to reports, Cheney got into a heated argument after being asked to stop moving tables inside the restaurant.
The confrontation escalated, as reported by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, when Cheney made a derogatory comment to Otto, to which Otto responded by punching Cheney. After that, Cheney allegedly stabbed Otto in retaliation.
On suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree murder, and second-degree attempted murder, Cheney was already facing an outstanding warrant for illegal camping.
The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is looking into the case as a homicide and has set his bail at $1 million.
Sophie Tabag, Otto’s coworker, said that he was a friendly person who always smiled at customers. He was fantastic. She stated, “He was a wonderful person.”
Another 44-year-old Wendy’s employee was also seriously injured in the altercation, but they were treated and later released from the hospital.
Cheney had been living in a tent near the beach for several years, according to witnesses. Officials have not yet provided any additional information regarding Otto’s passing.
