According to sources, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has criticized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, suggesting he should resign if he cannot ensure law and order in the province. Sources who spoke to Geo News on Saturday quoted the PTI founder as saying, “If Ali Amin Gandapur cannot restore peace, he should step down.”
He added that if Gandapur is unable to resolve governance issues, another individual should be given the opportunity. Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has seen a surge in terrorist activities, particularly in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan provinces.
A police report obtained by Geo News revealed that at least 476 terror incidents were recorded across KP during the first seven months of 2025. This wave of violence resulted in 121 civilian deaths and 301 injuries. In the line of duty, 66 police personnel were martyred and 90 wounded. The report also indicated that 10 Levies personnel were martyred and 8 injured, while the Frontier Corps (FC) lost 48 personnel with another 109 wounded. Overall, 55 members of other security forces were martyred and 112 injured during the same period.
Meanwhile, sources also mentioned that the PTI founder’s prison privileges have been reinstated, including access to books and newspapers. He was also granted a one-hour phone call with his children the day before. He reportedly informed prison officials that his children are welcome to visit him, but learned during the call that their National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOPs) had expired.
As per sources, Imran Khan clarified that he had never asked his children to come to Pakistan for political protests. His sister, Aleema Khan, had previously announced that the PTI founder’s sons—Suleiman Khan and Kasim Khan—would participate in an August protest to demand their father’s release. However, reports later emerged that Khan had barred his UK-based children from traveling to Pakistan and engaging in political activities. The party quickly refuted these reports, stating that there was no doubt Suleman (28) and Kasim (26) would visit Pakistan for their father.
The 71-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician has been in jail since August 2023, following his removal from power in April 2022 via a no-confidence motion. He is currently facing multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism. According to sources, the PTI founder also expressed disapproval of his sister Aleema’s recent comments about Mishal Yousafzai becoming a senator, calling them unnecessary and advising her to refrain from making political remarks.
‘Imran’s sons have applied for NICOPs’
Earlier in the day, Aleema stated that the former prime minister’s sons had applied for NICOPs, which are issued to Pakistani citizens living abroad and permit visa-free entry. Speaking to the media, Aleema said, “The PTI founder’s sons have applied for NICOPs and visas,” adding that they had previously possessed NICOPs, but they were now lost. Regarding their visa issue, Aleema said she had the tracking number for their application, despite embassy officials claiming they had not received it.
“A friend called the ambassador and said that permission has to be taken from the Ministry of Interior. I told him that whoever grants permission, get it from [Interior Minister] Mohsin Naqvi.” Aleema added, “Yesterday, news surfaced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would be issuing the visa, not the Ministry of Interior.” She noted that the ambassador was no longer responding to queries.
