Oslo/Dallas: Members of the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA), affiliated with Norway’s political party ‘Partiet Sentrum,’ have announced that former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. This nomination is a recognition of his unwavering 28-year struggle for peace, democracy, rule of law, and human rights. The announcement comes at a time when Baloch human rights activist Mehrang Baloch has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Mehrang Baloch’s nomination is an extraordinary acknowledgment of her sacrifices and struggle on a global scale. With Imran Khan’s nomination now confirmed, it is evident that Pakistan’s fight for justice and human rights is being recognized worldwide. It is worth mentioning that Imran Khan was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 when he played a significant role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. At that time, a resolution was presented in the Pakistani parliament supporting his nomination, specifically highlighting the release of Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan as an exceptional diplomatic move.

The recent nomination of Imran Khan was made possible by the key efforts of the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA) Executive Committee members, including Dr. Sabreena (PWA UK), Dr. Usman Khan (PWA UK), Samina Taji (PWA Norway), Umar Rehman (PWA France), and Nadeem Zaman (PWA Dallas, USA). These leaders formed a strong team in September and October, with significant contributions from members of the Pakistani diaspora in Italy, Spain, and the United States. Their coordinated campaign and lobbying efforts played a crucial role in securing this nomination. When contacted about the matter, human rights leader Nadeem Zaman, based in Dallas, shared that the entire effort was led by Samina Taji, Dr. Sabreena, and Umar Rehman. He expressed his joy at being part of this team and stated that their hard work has paid off, making Pakistanis extremely proud of this achievement.

Every year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee receives hundreds of nominations, followed by an eight-month-long selection process before announcing the Nobel Peace Prize winner. This year’s announcement will take place in October, and the award will be presented by the King of Norway in December. Imran Khan’s nomination is a global acknowledgment of his unwavering commitment to democracy and human rights, proving that his struggle is receiving international recognition.
