Shehroze Kashif, the youngest Pakistani mountaineer to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks, has expressed deep frustration over the government’s failure to deliver on its promised rewards.
In a statement, Kashif said the government had promised him cash prizes multiple times, “but everyone forgot.”
The national hero revealed the immense personal sacrifices made for his country: “I sold my land and my car… I spent nearly 4 crore rupees to illuminate the country’s name, and now I am in debt because of mountaineering.”
Kashif also spoke of his severe physical condition, “I had a dangerous back operation, I have rods in my back. I now have difficulty walking.” He added that no one even took responsibility for his medical bills.
He concluded with a warning that if this attitude persists, “I will be forced to think about my future abroad.”
