Hungary’s Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, has accused Britain and France of attempting to push Europe into war. In a speech, Szijjarto said that Britain and France’s plans to send troops to Ukraine could put the entire continent at risk of being drawn into war with Russia. According to him, European leaders’ war frenzy poses the greatest threat to Hungary.
Szijjarto alleged that the European Union and its leaders view Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban as a major obstacle to their plans, and are eager to see him defeated in the upcoming elections. The Hungarian Foreign Minister further stated that European leaders are eager to see a pro-Ukraine leader take power in Hungary.
Britain and France have announced plans to send troops to Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. A deal between Ukraine, Britain, and France has been signed in Paris. In his address, the Prime Minister of Ukraine said that if his party wins the election, they will pull out of the war, but if they lose, the new European plan will be implemented.
Hungary has consistently opposed increased tensions with Russia and has urged the European Union and Britain to focus on diplomacy. Last week, Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron announced that if a peace agreement is reached between Russia and Ukraine, both countries will send troops to Ukraine. Later, Britain’s Defense Secretary John Healey said that London will spend $270 million on a multi-national force in Kiev.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister’s remarks come as the crisis in Ukraine continues to deepen. The conflict has resulted in significant loss of life and damage to infrastructure. The international community is urging all parties to engage in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict peacefully.
