Hozier has just announced the postponement of several of his upcoming tour dates due to illness. This news follows his visibly struggling vocal performance during his headlining set at this year’s Governors Ball in New York City.
As his voice faltered during the show, he lightheartedly told the audience, “For anybody who has never seen me before, I promise I sound at least five per cent better on average.”
Revealing that both he and his bandmates were feeling unwell, the ‘Take Me To Church’ singer added, “I am haunted – I am stricken – by the spectre of puberty one more time.”
However, it now appears his condition has worsened, as he confirmed the cancellation of his forthcoming shows in Camden, New Jersey (June 10) and Ridgedale, Missouri (June 11).
Explaining that the decision was made “due to illness,” Hozier confirmed that the concert at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in New Jersey would now take place on July 15, while the Ridgedale date at the Thunder Ridge Nature Arena is being rescheduled for July 22.
“All previously purchased tickets will be honoured for the new dates. Ticket holders will receive additional information via email,” read the message from the ‘Too Sweet’ crooner, which also included an apology for “any inconvenience this may cause.”
This announcement came after Hozier had already expressed his gratitude to his New York fanbase for their attendance at the Governors Ball, writing on X (formerly Twitter):
“Thank you to @GovBallNYC for having me last night and to the crowd in NYC for being so kind while I struggled through this virus,” he posted, sharing photos from the performance. “You gave me such a lift.”
