WhatsApp continues to introduce features that enhance user experience and connectivity. In 2021, the app introduced support for linked devices, allowing users to access WhatsApp across multiple devices.
However, a limitation remained: only one phone could be connected to a single WhatsApp account. This changed with the launch of companion mode in April 2023, which allows users to link up to four additional devices, including phones, to their primary WhatsApp account.
If you ever wanted to use the same WhatsApp number on two smartphones, here’s how to do it:
Steps to Use the Same WhatsApp Number on Two Smartphones
Open WhatsApp on your primary device.
Tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen.
From the menu, select Linked Devices.
In the Linked Devices section, tap the option Link a Device. This will activate the QR code scanner.
Open WhatsApp on your secondary phone.
If the secondary phone uses a different number, it will prompt you to log in with that number. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the secondary phone’s screen and select Link as a Companion Device.
A QR code will appear on the secondary phone.
Use the QR scanner on your primary phone to scan the code. Once the scan is successful, your WhatsApp chats will begin loading, and you’ll be able to view your conversations on both phones.
This feature provides a seamless experience for users who want to stay connected across devices without losing their data.
