The Houston Roughnecks began their season with a disappointing 18-12 loss to the Memphis Showboats at home on Sunday afternoon.
At halftime, Houston trailed Memphis 15-3, struggling to keep up with their opponents.
Despite the setback, several Roughnecks players showed promise, including linebacker Reuben Foster, who made six tackles and secured one interception, and defensive tackle Keonte Schad, who contributed three tackles and forced a fumble.
In their season opener, Roughnecks’ starting quarterback Jarret Guarantano managed to score one touchdown.
The official attendance for the game was reported as 9,157 spectators.
Next, Houston will face the D.C. Defenders in Washington D.C. on Sunday, April 7, at 3 p.m.
Leading up to the season opener, the Roughnecks appointed Curtis “CJ” Johnson as their head coach, bringing in his extensive coaching experience from both collegiate and professional football.
Jarret Guarantano, formerly of Tennessee and Washington State, was named the team’s starting quarterback for Week 1.
