The primary focus was on the Houston Police Department’s suspension of hundreds of thousands of cases over the past eight years due to insufficient staffing, a situation Whitmire described as alarming and shocking. He emphasized that both he and Police Chief Troy Finner would be held accountable for the management of these cases.
Whitmire also commented on the outcome of the Harris County district attorney race, expressing a desire for the incoming district attorney to address the case backlog and ensure accountability.
In addition to law enforcement matters, Whitmire discussed plans to enhance mobility in the city. He highlighted efforts to promote bike trails and collaborate with METRO to boost ridership as part of ongoing initiatives to improve transportation across Houston.
