Houston-Karachi Sister City Boosts U.S.-Pakistan Trade Ties

Karachi/ Houston: Under the leadership of President Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association made a key stride in fostering bilateral trade ties between the United States and Pakistan through a productive meeting at the U.S. Consulate in Karachi. President Sheikh met with U.S. Consul General Scott Urbom and other senior officials to discuss opportunities for enhancing trade, economic cooperation, and sustainable partnerships between the two nations.
Discussions with Kevin Fury, Head of Economic Affairs; Tony Jones, Director of Public Engagement; and Tashfeen Mehdi, Commercial Specialist from the U.S. Commercial Service, focused on strengthening bilateral trade relations. Key topics included organizing a “Pak-U.S. Business and Investment Forum” in collaboration with the Consulate General of Pakistan in Houston and other institutions, and hosting future government trade delegations.
Consul General Scott Urbom and senior officials at the U.S. Consulate Karachi acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association and its partner organizations Alliance for Disaster Relief and Helping Hands for Relief and Development. Their contributions include flood relief efforts, environmental initiatives, scholarships for Pakistani students, and hosting of trade delegations. These initiatives have been made possible through the tireless dedication and personal involvement of Chief Patron Syed Javed Anwar.
During the meeting, Consul General Scott Urbom reaffirmed his commitment to continued collaboration with President Muhammad Saeed Sheikh in fostering people-to-people connections and achieving shared developmental goals.
