HOUSTON, Texas — Houstonians, be extra cautious on the roads this long holiday weekend. A new study has revealed that Houston ranks as the deadliest city to drive in during Memorial Day weekend.
The report by insurance agency Jerry analyzed traffic fatality data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) from 2018 to 2022. The study focused on determining the most dangerous cities and the average number of fatal vehicle accidents during the holiday period, which the NHTSA defines as beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday and ending at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
Texas is the deadliest state for Memorial Day driving, with an average of 218 traffic fatalities during the holiday period from 2018 to 2022. Houston tops the list as the deadliest city, averaging 20 fatalities during this time.
