Houston, Texas (KTRK) — Among this year’s Oscar nominees, one hails from Houston: director Wes Anderson!
Anderson, a Houston native, received a nomination for Best Short Film – Live Action for his work on “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” at the 96th Academy Awards. This marks his eighth Oscar nomination.
Renowned for his directorial efforts on films like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” Anderson comes from a background where his mother was a realtor and archaeologist, while his father worked in advertising. He is the middle child, with two brothers.
Having attended St. Johns School in River Oaks, Anderson graduated from there in 1987. Interestingly, during his college years, he attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he roomed with none other than Owen Wilson. Their shared history explains their frequent collaborations over the years.
Houstonians may recall Anderson’s 1998 film “Rushmore,” which was shot on the St. Johns campus and featured various other Houston filming locations.
Although Anderson now calls Paris, France home, Houstonians will be cheering for him come Oscar Sunday on March 10th. However, according to his publicist, Anderson will be hard at work on his next project and will not be attending the ceremony.
