KOLLAM, INDIA – A horrifying incident of domestic violence driven by superstition has been reported from the Kollam district of Kerala, India, where a man poured boiling fish curry onto his wife’s face.
The brutal attack occurred after the 36-year-old woman allegedly refused to participate in a black magic ritual orchestrated by her husband. As a result of the assault, the victim sustained severe burns to her face and neck.
According to the police report, the incident took place around 10 AM on Wednesday. The husband had reportedly visited a “spiritual healer” and returned home convinced his wife was possessed by “jinn or evil spirits.”
He demanded that his wife sit before him with her hair undone so he could place an amulet around her neck and apply ash. When the woman refused to comply, the husband flew into a rage, grabbed the hot curry that was cooking on the stove, and threw it directly at her.
Her screams alerted neighbors, who rushed to her aid and transported her to a private hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
The victim told local media that her husband had a history of violence and frequently visited the black magic practitioner. She had previously filed an assault complaint against him, but he was reportedly released with only a warning.
Police have registered a case against the fugitive husband for “causing grievous harm by a dangerous means.” A manhunt is currently underway for the accused, who fled the scene immediately after the attack
