Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has hailed the recently unveiled Punjab Budget 2025–26 as “historic in every respect,” asserting that it ushers in unprecedented investment across numerous sectors, alongside significant relief and development initiatives for journalists, artists, and the broader public. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore following the budget announcement, Bukhari remarked, “The manner in which this development budget has been presented is truly historic. No previous government has invested this extensively across so many sectors concurrently.”
Highlighting key initiatives, she announced the imminent issuance of health cards to journalists and artists, a commitment that had previously remained unfulfilled. “The health cards were awaiting printing. We will now ensure they reach journalists and artists very soon,” she stated.
She further disclosed the introduction of a Cinema Fund aimed at bolstering the film industry, along with the establishment of a Film City in Punjab, signaling a renewed emphasis on promoting cultural and creative industries. “We are going to disburse film funds within a few days,” she added.
To provide further support to the media community, Bukhari shared that a Journalist Housing Foundation is being established. Additionally, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the development of a dedicated housing city specifically for artists.
“We will do everything within our power for the welfare of journalists,” Bukhari emphasized, reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to the creative and media sectors. The information minister also stated that Punjab now offers the highest salaries and pensions among all provinces. “We have increased salaries and pensions to the maximum possible extent,” she confirmed. Commending the chief minister, she concluded, “Maryam Nawaz never makes promises she cannot fulfill. The budget she has delivered is truly historic.”
