Heather Graham has recently spoken candidly about her decision to never have children.
In a newly published interview with The Guardian, the American actress openly discussed the ramifications of this choice in her life.
She began by saying, “I think I’ve had moments where I’ve pondered: what would life have been like if I had a child? I would estimate that 80% of the time I feel content that I don’t have kids, experiencing freedom and genuine satisfaction, and perhaps 20% of the time I wonder about the alternative.”
For those unaware, the Screen Actors Guild Award nominee previously dated Josh Lucas and the late Heath Ledger, and she is currently in a relationship with John de Neufville since 2022.
Expressing gratitude for her current lifestyle, which grants her the autonomy to make her own choices, the Hangover actress informed the outlet that she left her parents’ home because her father, James Graham, was ‘very critical of everything’ she pursued.
“I truly think it’s wonderful that more women are now voicing their desire not to have children,” she continued, “The prevailing culture often dictates: ‘You need to have kids.’ But why? If you are not driven by a need to please others, what do you truly desire?”
Furthermore, Graham revealed that she missed an opportunity to be cast in the 1988 film Heathers because her father had not permitted it.
Before concluding, the 55-year-old actress shared, “I essentially became my own person and discovered: ‘What are my preferences? What do I want when I’m not under this highly judgmental, authoritarian, parental, patriarchal structure? What do I want to do? What are my thoughts on this?’”
