HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Prepare for potentially dangerous heat levels this weekend.
A Heat Advisory is issued when the heat index is expected to hit 108 or hotter, and that dangerous combination of heat and humidity will be felt across most of Southeast Texas on Saturday. You’ll still want to stay well-hydrated and take plenty of breaks if you will be working or playing outside.
Temperatures this morning are starting steamy in the upper 70s and low 80s. Then the sunshine will heat the mercury up to 100 degrees in the afternoon. If Bush Airport does hit 100, it will be the first time in over 650 days.
How long will the triple digit days stick around?
It will likely hit 100 again Sunday afternoon, then a stronger Gulf breeze that kicks in Monday should bring highs back down toward the mid 90s for most of next week. Toward the end of next week the heat ridge will build back overhead and push our highs back toward 100.
When is our next chance for rain?
The next chance comes on Wednesday when we get a southeasterly flow in the lower half of the atmosphere to pump in some Gulf moisture. But even then it’s only a 20% chance you’ll get rain at this time. Keep those lawn sprinklers going!
Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?
We are tracking another large Saharan dust cloud moving into the Gulf of Mexico that could reach us as early as Sunday but bring more noticeable haze by Tuesday. No tropical activity is expected this week because of the dry, dusty air, but the Bay of Campeche could end up active again by the end of next week.
