AppleTV+ announced on Friday that its Emmy-winning comedy series, “Ted Lasso,” is set to return for a highly anticipated fourth season.
Jason Sudeikis, who stars as the title character and also serves as an executive producer and co-creator, will reprise his role as the beloved UK-based football coach, returning to Richmond, according to a news release.
“As we all continue to navigate a world where numerous factors have conditioned us to ‘hesitate before acting,’ in season four, the team at AFC Richmond will learn to ‘act before hesitating,’ discovering that wherever they end up is precisely where they’re meant to be,” Sudeikis stated in a characteristically Lasso-esque message on Friday.
The full cast list is yet to be revealed, including whether fan-favorites like Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Phil Dunster, Jeremy Swift, and Nick Mohammed, among others, will return to their roles.
AppleTV+ did confirm in the news release that Brendan Hunt and Brett Goldstein will return as executive producers, with Goldstein also continuing as a co-writer on the series. The release did not specify if they will also return as cast members Beard and Roy Kent, respectively.
Also on Friday, Sudeikis appeared as a guest on the “New Heights” podcast, hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, where he hinted at a plot point for Season 4, revealing that his character will be coaching a women’s team.
This news comes almost two years after the Season 3 finale of “Ted Lasso” aired. The episode, while not officially labeled a “series finale,” left the show’s future uncertain, feeling like a definitive conclusion.
“Ted Lasso” premiered in 2020 and quickly became a sensation, eventually becoming one of AppleTV+’s most-watched series.
The comedy follows Lasso, an American college football coach who travels to England to coach AFC Richmond, an English football team striving to regain its former glory after relegation. Though not the most experienced in UK football, Lasso infuses his optimistic philosophy and heartfelt sentiment into every aspect of the team.
The heartwarming show has garnered 13 Emmy Awards, including outstanding comedy series and lead actor for Sudeikis.
A release date for Season 4 has not yet been announced.
