However, Harvard University stood firm against the government’s demands, which included dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, auditing the viewpoints of students, faculty, and staff, and revising on-campus protest regulations, even in the face of potential federal funding cuts. Instead, the nation’s oldest university filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, asserting that these demands constituted a violation of the First Amendment and were “arbitrary and capricious.” Both parties are scheduled to make their initial court appearance in Boston today. The judge is expected to establish deadlines for the government to produce documentation outlining its internal deliberations regarding the funding freeze.
