Renowned Indian cricket analyst and commentator Harsha Bhogle has expressed his disappointment over Pakistan’s surprising Test series defeat to Bangladesh, labeling it as “embarrassing.”
Pakistan suffered a 2-0 whitewash at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, marking their first-ever series loss to Bangladesh. Bhogle, known for his insights into Pakistan’s cricketing strengths and weaknesses, noted that while Pakistan is usually more dominant in shorter formats, he did not foresee such a comprehensive loss in Test cricket.
“I remember saying some time ago that the shorter the game, the more dangerous Pakistan would be, and, almost as a consequence, that the longer the game, the more vulnerable they would be,” Bhogle posted on X. “But I didn’t expect it to be this stark. Well as Bangladesh played, this is embarrassing for Pakistan,” he added.
The series defeat was finalized on the fifth day of the second Test, with Bangladesh successfully chasing a target of 185 runs. Key contributions came from veteran players Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan, securing Bangladesh’s first-ever Test series win over Pakistan.
The run chase was set up by opener Zakir Hasan, who scored a rapid 40 runs. Despite losing a few wickets, Bangladesh’s middle order, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque, anchored the chase. Rahim and Al Hasan then guided Bangladesh to victory.
This defeat marks Pakistan’s fifth consecutive Test loss in the World Test Championship, following three defeats to Australia and now two against Bangladesh. Pakistan now sits eighth on the WTC points table with a win percentage of just 19.05%.
