A judge at the Southwark Crown Court heard from the Crime Prosecution Service (CPS) that Zikriya Sharif, the grandson of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, was put in fear of violence by PTI supporter Gulfam Hussain at the Avenfield flats.
Gulfam appeared before the crown court judge, where the prosecution presented the full details of the case to the judge.
In the King Vs Gulfam case, the judge was informed that Hussain had been charged with causing a person to fear violence through harassment, in violation of Section 4(1) of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
The charge specifies: “Gulfam Hussain between 22nd November 2024 and 12 April 2025 caused Zikriya Sharif to fear that violence would be used against him by his course of conduct which he knew or ought to have known would cause fear of violence to Zikriya Sharif on each occasion in that he recorded threatening messages towards him and his family outside his family home and by throwing stones at the front door of their property.”
The judge announced that the trial will commence in June 2027. Until then, Gulfam will be monitored using an electronic tag and remains prohibited from going near the Park Lane flats.
The initial complaint to the police was lodged by Khurram Butt, the UK Youth Wing leader of PML-N, who was also present in court. When questioned by the judge about the charges, Gulfam denied them and refused to enter a guilty plea.
In January of this year, the PTI activist was apprehended by Scotland Yard and subsequently released on bail, with the condition that he must not go anywhere near the Avenfield flats, where members of the Sharif family reside.
Gulfam, who was a member of PML-N before joining PTI last year, was arrested by the police on January 17 for allegedly threatening to harm Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former PM Nawaz Sharif, and other members of the Sharif family, including a threat made live on TikTok to detonate the Park Lane flats.
Gulfam stated that he will defend his actions and will continue to contest the case. He alleged that Butt had secretly filmed him and provided the evidence to the police. Butt confirmed that he will appear as a prosecution witness during the trial.
