Amid a fragile peace deal in Gaza, Hamas has welcomed a significant U.S. position but has also accused Israel of committing serious breaches of the agreement.
In a statement from Gaza, Hamas spokesperson Hazim Qasem called the American stance against the annexation of the occupied West Bank into Israel a “positive step.”
The spokesperson emphasized that Hamas is fully committed to ensuring the success and implementation of the Gaza peace agreement. He revealed that Hamas had received clear guarantees for the deal from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, which were also directly confirmed by the United States.
Qasem added that Hamas has already implemented the first phase of the agreement by handing over living hostages and several bodies to Israel.
However, the spokesperson accused Israel of undermining the truce. “Violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement by Israel are continuing,” Qasem stated. He claimed these violations include the killing of 90 Palestinians since the ceasefire began, the continued closure of the Rafah border crossing, and ongoing efforts to block the delivery of desperately needed aid into the region.
