Adrien Brody, infamous for his 2003 impromptu kiss with Halle Berry on the Oscars stage, encountered a playful reversal of roles on Sunday’s red carpet. Berry, an Oscar winner herself, playfully stole a kiss from Brody before the ceremony, a lighthearted “payback” for his unexpected smooch years prior. The two shared a laugh and a hug, along with Brody’s companion.
In 2003, Brody, upon winning Best Actor for “The Piano,” surprised Berry with a passionate kiss as she presented his award. While Berry seemed taken aback at the time, her recent red carpet gesture indicates no hard feelings. She even shared a video of their playful exchange, captioning it with a winking emoji and the phrase “I had to get some payback.”
Brody went on to win his second Best Actor Oscar for “The Brutalist.” Berry, notably, remains the only Black woman to have won the Best Actress Oscar, and has expressed her hope that another Black woman will join her in this achievement soon.
