In a shocking incident, a woman, along with her teenage son, allegedly murdered her husband in Gujranwala upon learning of his second marriage.
Police arrested the mother-son duo after Tariq’s second wife lodged a complaint.
According to the police, Tariq had remarried six months ago, infuriating his first wife and son.
The police revealed that the accused tied Tariq with a rope, tortured him, rubbed red chilli powder into his eyes, and then strangled him to death.
Following the murder, the accused reportedly stormed the residence of Tariq’s second wife, leading to a police report and their subsequent arrest.
The police recovered Tariq’s body and stated that the suspects confessed to their crime.
Polygamy is not very common in Pakistan.
Although no official statistics are available, research by the Institute of Policy Studies, an Islamabad-based think tank, indicates that polygamy is more prevalent in rural areas, especially in families lacking a male heir or when men fall in love with another woman. It is rarely observed in urban areas.
Earlier this month, a Karachi court sentenced Asma to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of her husband, Shah Zaman, through strangulation and electrocution. She was aided by her accomplice, Ghulam Nabi alias Deedar.
The court stated in its judgment that the accused confessed to her crime before a judicial magistrate and planned the murder.
