Pakistan’s government advisor for political affairs, Senator Rana Sanaullah, has clarified the rumors surrounding Imran Khan’s meetings with other political leaders. Speaking on the Geo News program “New Pakistan,” Rana Sanaullah stated that he was not aware of any meetings between Imran Khan and other politicians, including Mahmood Achakzai and Nawaz Sharif.
The advisor to the Prime Minister emphasized that the government had taken a positive and constructive step by electing a new opposition leader in the Senate. He stated that the opposition party, PTI, should also take positive steps to strengthen the democratic process.
Rana Sanaullah further clarified that Mahmood Achakzai was a close friend of the government during their difficult times, and both Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had positive views about him. According to the advisor, Achakzai had stated that Asfandyar Wali Khan, the founder of the Awami National Party, was not in favor of a dialogue with the government. However, PTI members claimed that they were ready to engage in talks with the government if they were given an opportunity to meet with the party’s founder.
The advisor also stated that the Speaker of the Senate had consulted with opposition members before proceeding with the process of electing a new opposition leader. The notification for Mahmood Achakzai’s appointment as the opposition leader was subsequently issued. Rana Sanaullah emphasized that the process of electing a new opposition leader in the Senate would begin next week, and PTI should play a constructive role in the Parliament.
The advisor advised PTI members to cooperate with the government on certain issues and to improve their own affairs in some areas. He stated that the preparations made by PTI suggested that they would not accept the February 8 deadline to return to the Parliament. Instead, they would engage in a constructive role in the Parliament and fulfill their responsibilities.
