Prime Minister’s aide on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, stated on Wednesday that the government is willing to conduct repolling in any constituency if PTI can provide concrete evidence of election rigging.
Rana Sanaullah’s Statement
- He remarked that PTI has accepted the electoral system, so it should not create an artificial political crisis.
- His statement comes as PTI prepares to launch another anti-government movement after Eid-ul-Fitr, with Imran Khan instructing party leaders to expedite contacts with other opposition groups for post-Eid protests.
Formation of an Opposition Alliance
- In April 2024, PTI formed a multi-party opposition alliance named Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan, including:
- Sunni Ittehad Council
- Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party
- Balochistan National Party-Mengal
- Jamaat-e-Islami
- Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen
- Reports suggest that former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is also being approached to join PTI’s anti-government movement.
- PTI’s legal representative Faisal Chaudhry revealed that the party is working on forming a grand opposition alliance, aiming to restore the constitution and democracy.
Recalling the November 2024 Protest
- Sanaullah reminded that on November 24, 2024, PTI attempted to create a crisis through its “do-or-die” protest in Islamabad.
- Islamabad witnessed intense clashes between law enforcement and PTI supporters, as the latter tried to march towards D-Chowk under heavy tear gas shelling.
- A late-night government crackdown forced PTI leadership and supporters to retreat, abruptly ending the protest.
- The clashes resulted in the martyrdom of four Rangers personnel and two policemen, while PTI claimed 12 of its supporters lost their lives.
- Several PTI workers were arrested, and multiple cases were registered against them.
PML-N’s Response
- Sanaullah accused PTI’s former government of corruption, claiming that appointments and transfers in Punjab were made through bribes.
- Earlier, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif vowed to block any attempt to create an “artificial political crisis”.
- The three-time former PM stated that the people of Pakistan will no longer allow any disruption in the country’s development and progress.
