On Friday, Alphabet’s Google was unsuccessful in its attempt to persuade a U.S. appeals court to further freeze an order mandating significant reforms to its Play app store. This decision follows a lawsuit filed by “Fortnite” video game maker Epic Games.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco, denied Google’s request to continue pausing the order. The ruling requires Google to restore competition by allowing users to download rival app stores directly from its Play store and by making the Play store’s app catalog accessible to those competitors, among other reforms.
