A family in North Texas is desperately searching for a man who disappeared near a creek in Garland just before a heavy rainfall.
Three days have passed since Stacy Simpson last saw her boyfriend near a creek in Garland, but for her, time seems to have stopped.
“It was sprinkling at first. Then it started coming harder. The ground was already saturated, so the culvert filled up a lot quicker,” Simpson recalled.
As a heavy downpour moved in on Saturday afternoon, Simpson sought shelter nearby. She explains that her boyfriend, 50-year-old Gerrad Kelley, stayed behind near Pleasant Valley Road and Shalimar Drive.
“I was there for five or 10 minutes, and I came back. That’s when I got that video. The water was up higher than I’ve ever seen it,” she said.
It was only later, upon returning, that she noticed Kelley was missing, despite his bike and shoes being left behind.
“I just don’t want to think of him out here. I just don’t know where he’s at,” Simpson expressed.
Garland police stated that officers conducted an extensive search of the area on Saturday with helicopters and drones.
Days later, the creek remains calm. Friends are assisting Simpson in continuing the search downstream, where she fears rushing water may have carried her partner of eight years.
“I love him so much,” she said.
Kelley is described as 5’6″ tall and approximately 170 lbs, with brown hair, a grey beard, and tattoos on his fingers and wrist.
While Simpson awaits further action from officials, she remains determined not to give up.
“We’ll just keep looking until we find him,” she affirmed.
Kelley was last seen wearing black shorts and a grey “Army” t-shirt.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Garland Police.
