Waqar Hussain, a talented young vocalist hailing from the bustling streets of Korangi in Karachi, has successfully captivated audiences on the ‘Pakistan Idol’ stage. Utilizing his intense dedication, hard work, and deep family musical heritage, Hussain has secured a prominent spot among the competition’s Top 16 finalists.
Waqar belongs to a distinguished musical lineage, a family whose artistic fragrance spread globally through the sublime Sufi music of the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Waqar’s passion for music has been an obsession since childhood, a drive now visible in the new generation of his illustrious household.
His father, Imdad Hussain, is an accomplished Sitar player, while his brother, Ashfaq Hussain, is deeply involved in Sufi music. Waqar shared that while his family is incredibly supportive and loving, they enforce strict discipline when it comes to the technical mastery of music, ensuring high artistic standards.
Waqar Hussain highlighted the profound effect of the platform, stating that ‘Pakistan Idol’ has brought a remarkable transformation to his life. The show has not only provided him with national recognition but has also solidified his faith in pursuing his dreams. He delivered a powerful message to young aspirants, emphasizing that through faith, conviction, and true dedication, they can surely achieve their goals.
His father, the Sitar maestro Imdad Hussain, stressed that every vocalist must maintain a strong connection to raag (classical framework) and traditional classical music, as that was the foundational rule for singers in the past. His brother, Ashfaq Hussain, added that while their father diligently taught them traditional music, they are also adapting their craft to produce the kind of music today’s youth enjoys listening to. Waqar Hussain’s success serves as compelling evidence that platforms like ‘Pakistan Idol’ are effectively turning young vocalists’ dreams into reality.
