Islamabad: Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed has accepted an invitation to join the opposition alliance, the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aeen-e-Pakistan (Movement for the Protection of Pakistan’s Constitution), and is expected to announce his formal inclusion in the coming days.
Leaders of the opposition alliance, including Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, met Mushtaq Ahmed at his residence, where they discussed Pakistan’s current political climate, the supremacy of the Constitution, and future coordination among opposition parties.
According to a statement from the alliance, the delegation congratulated Mushtaq Ahmed for participating in the Global Solidarity Flotilla for Gaza and praised his commitment to democratic and constitutional principles.
Mushtaq Ahmed recently resigned from Jamaat-e-Islami, saying in an emotional statement that “the night I decided to part ways with the party, I cried — but I could not compromise on principles.”
Political analysts say his decision to join the opposition bloc marks a significant development, particularly as the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aeen-e-Pakistan seeks to unite religious, nationalist, and pro-democracy parties under a single platform.
