The Foreign Office addressed media reports on Tuesday regarding the denial of entry to a senior Pakistani diplomat in the United States, stating that the matter is currently under investigation.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, in a statement, clarified that Ambassador KK Ahsan Wagan, who presently serves as Pakistan’s envoy to Turkmenistan, was visiting the United States in a personal capacity.
“The Foreign Ministry is investigating the issue,” the spokesperson stated, without providing further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to diplomatic sources, Wagan was detained by US immigration officials upon his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport and subsequently deported.
Reports indicate that the decision may be related to administrative complaints stemming from his previous diplomatic assignment in the US, although no official explanation has been provided by American authorities.
Wagan, who previously held diplomatic positions in Washington and Muscat, was posted to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, six months ago.
While speculation persists regarding the reasons behind the action, the Foreign Office has refrained from issuing any conclusive comments. “We are examining the details and will provide further information as needed,” the spokesperson added.
