TATE FAIR FOOD
Although the State Fair is still over a month away, Dallas food writer Sarah Blaskovich has already sampled some of the anticipated treats. Last week, the 10 finalists for the Big Tex Choice Awards were announced, and each one was taste-tested early in the morning at a press event. Some standouts include the surprisingly delicious cotton candy bacon, a unique corny dog, and an intriguing new drink. Next week, a panel of judges will select three winners from these finalists. While this event is not open to the public, you can find out which items won by visiting Dallasnews.com/food next Thursday.
PUMPKIN SPICE SEASON
Even though it’s only mid-August, Pumpkin Spice season has arrived. 7-Eleven introduced a Pumpkin Spice Slurpee on August 1, which, while not packing a strong pumpkin or spice flavor, might be worth a try for Slurpee enthusiasts. Starbucks, the originator of the Pumpkin Spice craze, is expected to unveil its fall drinks later this month.
