A significant meeting has taken place in Peshawar between the province’s top civilian and military leadership. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, met with the Peshawar Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Umar Ahmad Bukhari.
The meeting is considered highly important as security sources have confirmed it was an exclusive “one-on-one” discussion. No other government or military official was present, indicating the sensitive nature of the topics discussed. The core agenda was the serious security challenges facing the province and the current law-and-order situation.
According to sources, the two leaders held detailed discussions on a coordinated strategy to counter terrorism effectively.
The timing of this meeting is also notable, as it occurred just before a major “Aman Jirga” (Peace Jirga) is scheduled to take place. While security sources formally termed the meeting a “courtesy call,” the conversation centered squarely on provincial security and maintaining peace.
This approach contrasts with that of the former Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, who had met the Corps Commander along with his cabinet after taking office. The newly elected CM Sohail Afridi, however, opted for a direct, private discussion on these critical issues.
